Assisting William Hereford
I feel lucky to have meet Mr. William Hereford. I learned a lot from William about assisting and absorbed some great retouching tips I could hardly wait to get home to try. He is also a really nice guy, who has a relaxed and friendly way with his subjects, and maintains an easy, but firm professional manner.
Our portrait session was with Michael G., best known for producing Dub Side of the Moon, a reggae remix of the similarly titled Pink Floyd record. My head swelled with lighting tips, reggae, and current music producing issues, and thoughts on how being a photographer would be a very interesting way of making a living. But I soon realized I may have a problem with it--how to not be in awe of my subject long enough to set up my lighting.
UH. Ha. it just occurred to me that William was already familiar with his subject, so all the new things that were stunning me weren't as shiny new for him. Yet another reason why researching your subject beforehand is a good idea!!
Mr. Hereford paid me for a day of assisting with a copy of Workbook--assisting cover letters here I come! His work can be found at www.williamhereford.com.
